  • When you arrive at Camp Elk River, follow the signs to Lake Barbara. Park in the parking lot and go to the lake to check in.

  • Hours and Fees
  • Lake Barbara is open for reservations with a staff lifeguard from mid-June through mid-August.

  • Lake Barbara's open swim dates and hours will be posted on May 1, 2008.

  • The fee to use Lake Barbara is $2.00 for registered members of Girl Scouts and $3.00 for family members who are not registered.

  • Who may use Lake Barbara?
  • Lake Barbara is open to currently registered troops/groups/solos and family members who accompany them.

  • Reservations are required for all groups unless a designated open swim weekend. Please call the Lake Barbara information phone number, 763-971-4019
  • to make a reservation. Your reservation will be confirmed within 24 hours.

  • Day camps and resident campers share Lake Barbara with troops and groups during the day.

  • Please use "little swimmers" diapers for babies and toddlers swimmers who are in the lake. This prevents the lake from being shut down due to bathroom accidents.

  • If you wish to use Lake Barbara between June 1 and June 18, please call 763-971-4079 or e-mail the Site Registrar siteregistrar@girlscoutsmpls.org to make arrangements. A certified lifeguard must accompany your group. Proof of certification must be submitted to the Site Registrar prior to your group using the lake.

  • Paying the fee with cash or Lake Barbara passes
  • Use cash or Lake Barbara passes earned during the Cookie Program Activity when you arrive at Lake Barbara. A Family Pass allows immediate family members of the girl earning the pass to use Lake Barbara at no charge. A Troop Pass allows any registered member of the troop to use Lake Barbara at no charge. Lake Barbara passes do not expire.

  • What else is there to do at Lake Barbara?
  • You may bring a picnic lunch or snack, and blankets or chairs to sit on the grassy area during your stay at Lake Barbara. Two picnic tables and two portable grills are available for groups to use on a first come, first served basis. You may bring your own grill to use. Please bring your own charcoal to use with any of the grills.

  • The lifeguards will give swimmers a swim test to determine which area of the Lake is appropriate for them to use, according to their ability.

  • Water toys are allowed in the Lake, unless the lifeguards feel the safety of the swimmers is at risk. They will ask swimmers to remove water toys at their discretion.

  • Don't be mistaken for an intruder! For the safety of the resident campers in session, please arrange a site tour of Camp Elk River if your group wishes to explore the grounds when they are visiting Lake Barbara. A tour may be arranged by contacting the site manager, at 763-441-0169. Buildings are in use by resident campers or other groups during the summer. Please respect the privacy of the people in them!
