Girl Scout Troop Campsite Rental

For information about campsite rental for service unit or regional encampments, please contact the Council Site Registrar at 763-971-4079 or e-mail siteregistrar@girlscoutsmpls.org.

Three camps are owned and maintained by the council through the generosity of donors who have supported the Annual Fund and Family Partnership Campaigns, contributed to the Capital Campaign and purchased millions of boxes of Girl Scout Cookies.

Camp tours for troops are available by making an appointment with a campsite ranger. Consult the Council Resource Guide for camp phone numbers. Leave a message and a campsite ranger will return your call.

Safety-Wise is a resource developed by GSUSA. This book contains program standards that give direction to troop leaders on ways to ensure a successful and safe camping experience for the troop. Review the appropriate Activity Checkpoints in Safety-Wise before you and your troop make plans for your camping experience.

Activities at camp are planned and implemented as a troop. To enhance your program activities, you will find a list of equipment and activity kits available for rent at the camps in the Equipment Rental section of this web site.

CAMP ELK RIVER
For further information about the sites or site availability, please contact the Council Site Registrar at 763-971-4079.

Camp Elk River, with its rolling hills, dense woods, wetlands, and open prairie, has been used by Girl Scouts since 1963.
The five distinct areas for troop and service unit camping include:
  • TimberMeade Area located in beautiful oak and maple woods, has cleared grassy tenting areas, plus three new buildings. Program, sleeping, and eating areas are provided in TimberMeade Center, Popp Cabin, and Pickering Cabin. A lighted warming house and skating rink open to all Camp Elk River visitors are available in the winter, weather permitting. Tent unit #4 is now physically accessible.
  • Lake Barbara is open for swimming from June through August. Contact the Council Site Registrar at 763-971-4079 for reservations and to confirm lifeguard coverage. The sandy bottom and mechanical filtration system make it a clean, refreshing place to cool off during the hot months. Before and after summer resident camp, troops must bring a certified lifeguard with them in order to use Lake Barbara.
  • The spectacular Gray Koch Program Building, located at the center of camp, overlooks a rolling hill and a variety of plants and trees. Access to the trail connecting all parts of camp is nearby. This 16,000-square-foot building includes four program rooms, a beautiful dining hall and commercial kitchen, and a small dormitory wing.
  • The Pines Dormitory Building sleeps 60 people in bunks and is located near the Gray Koch Program Building.
  • The Red Barn and Equestrienne Center area can be used by a group either separately or in conjunction with the heated and unheated cabins located nearby.
  • Whispering Prairie, where primitive sites encompass more than 300 acres of open prairie, is adjacent to two ponds and woods with trails for hiking.
CAMP GREENWOOD
For further information about the sites or site availability, please contact the Council Site Registrar at 763-971-4079.

Camp Greenwood has been a program location since 1925. The camp has both rustic and modern buildings and is located in a rural area between two small lakes: Lake Charlotte and Moore Lake. The site includes woodland, prairie, pond and lake habitats, nature trails, groomed grass areas, and a winter sledding hill. Girl Scout activities are enhanced through the use of the outdoor campfire/amphitheater.

CAMP LOCKESLEA
For further information about the sites or site availability, please contact the Council Site Registrar at 763-971-4079. To arrange a tour of Camp Lockeslea, call the site manager at 763-971-4080.

Camp Lockeslea is conveniently located near Interstate 94/Highway 694 East. The winterized lodge has two separate program areas. Beautiful grounds next to the Mississippi River include a nature trail, bird sanctuary, and campfire rings.

Program Room Standard Amenities
  • All program rooms include tables and benches or chairs, which are folded up at night so girls and adults can sleep on mattresses on the floor of the program room.
  • All kitchens are fully stocked with basic cooking utensils, pots and pans, dishes, coffee maker, microwave, and cleaning supplies. A more complete list of amenities is included in the confirmation materials a troop/group receives after making a reservation.
  • Firewood is stacked near each building with a fireplace or fire scar. Fire scars are available in the winter, weather depending. Do not bring fire wood from other sources to camp.
  • Buildings/sites are generally available for rent between Labor Day and Memorial Day. TimberMeade Center and tent units and Popp Cabin at Camp Elk River, as well as Camp Lockeslea, are available for rent in the summer.
