Frequently Asked QuestionsWhat are the benefits of Girl Scout Camp?Who are the camp staff? Camp staff are enthusiastic, talented and caring adults who come from all over the United States and around the world to spend a summer with Girl Scout campers. They are excited about having lots of fun at camp and teaching girls to grow strong! Camp staff are selected based on their experience, ability to serve as role models and genuine desire to work with children. Interviews, reference checks and criminal background screening are a part of the selection process. Staff training includes first aid, safety and emergency procedures, outdoor skills, team building, how to deal with homesickness, understanding age level characteristics and more. Staff who supervise high adventure, horseback riding, water activities and trips are required to have additional training and qualifications. Who may attend Girl Scout resident camp? Resident overnight camp sessions are open to girls entering grades 2-12. Girls of all abilities and backgrounds are welcomed. A $10 fee will be charged to non-members and applied to their Girl Scouts of the USA membership. Special one-day sessions are open to girls entering grades 1-3. How do we choose a camp session? Read the program descriptions together and help your camper choose the one that best meets her interests, grade level and family's needs. Use school grade for fall 2007 to determine the grade level requirement listed for each session. Are medical exams required? Health exams for campers are recommended, but not required. If, in your opinion, information from your medical provider offers a better understanding of your child's health needs, then a health exam is recommended. Staff rely on you to make that determination. A Health History form and a Medical Recommendation form for use by your medical provider will be included in the information packet sent prior to camp. May we request to stay in the same cabin with a friend? Yes! Girl Scout camp is about being with friends and making new friends. Girls may request to stay in the same cabin with one friend who is attending the same session. The two girls will be assigned to the same room or cabin, but may be paired with other girls for activities throughout the camp session. Girls must put each other's name on the registration form and register for the same session. To help girls make new friends, please limit your request to one friend. Requests for more than one friend cannot be honored. Can the camps accommodate special needs of campers? Yes, girls with disabilities, health concerns or dietary needs, who can participate in camp activities with some assistance, are welcome and encouraged to register. To better serve the camper, prior notice of her needs is required. Please call the Outdoor Program Department at (763) 535-4602 if you have any questions. All information will be kept confidential. Why don't I receive a refund if I cancel my camper's reservation less than four weeks before the start date of the camp session? At four weeks before a camp session start date, the camp staff has already prepared housing assignments, planned activities, made food preparations and made sure that the correct number of staff are available for the number of girls registered. The fees paid for camp have been used long before the camper arrives for her session. Is financial assistance available? Yes! Please check the box on the Camp Registration Form indicating that you would like a Grants for Girls application. You may also download the application on the Grants for Girls page on this Web site. You may also discuss payment options with the Program Registrar by calling (763) 535-4602. All information is kept confidential. A Typical Day at Camp
