All of our benefits are presented "Cafeteria Style," meaning you may choose to participate in as little as one plan, all of the plans, or any combination. In addition, most benefit plans are deducted from your paycheck on a pre-tax basis to offer you significant tax savings.
401(k) Retirement and Savings Plan
The 401(k) plan allows you to save money for retirement on a pre-tax basis. In 2007, the maximum annual payroll deduction can be up to $15,000 for all employees or $20,000 if you are age 50 and over. Employees who have completed 12 consecutive months of service and who have worked at least 1,000 hours are eligible for a direct employer contribution of 4% of their gross salary plus a 100% match of the first 3% of gross salary that they contribute.

Holidays: The Council designates eight paid holidays per year.

Floating Holiday: Employees are eligible for two Floating Holidays per fiscal year. Floating Holidays for new employees will be based on their start date.
Paid Time Off
The Paid Time Off Plan (PTO) provides regular full-time and part-time employees with paid time away from work with flexibility in the way personal time off is used. Paid Time Off can be used in a number of different ways (including, but not limited to): vacation, personal business, brief illness, doctor or dental appointments and holidays not covered under the holiday schedule.
Regular full-time and part-time employees who work at least 30 hours per week are eligible to earn Paid Time Off. Regular full-time employees accumulate Paid Time Off at the following rates:
- 0 - 2 years - 18 days per year
- 2 - 5 years - 23 days per year
- 5+ years - 28 days per year
Regular part-time employees (30-39 hours per week) earn and accumulate Paid Time Off on a pro-rated basis.
Health Care
Preferred One is our provider for the year 2007. When in-network providers are used, greater benefits accrue than when out-of-network providers are selected. There are two medical health plans in which to choose from. The difference between the health plans consist of the monthly cost to the employee, co-payment amount for office visits, and percentage paid for hospitalization. The monthly contribution for full-time employees is as follows:
Current Health Plan:
$20.00 co-payment for office visits; 100% paid for hospitalization.

Flexible Spending Reimbursement Accounts
The Council's benefits package also includes two reimbursement accounts. These accounts let you pay eligible health care and dependent care expenses on a pre-tax basis. You may contribute up to $3,600 a year to your Health Care Reimbursement Account and up to $5,000 per year to your Dependent Day Care Reimbursement Account.
Life Insurance, Accidental Death and Dismemberment
All regular full and part-time employees who work at least 30 hours per week are eligible to participate. Our Life, Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D), Short-Term and Long-Term Disability Plans are paid by the Council for eligible employees.
- Life Insurance provided is two times annual earnings with a maximum of $150,000.
- AD&D Insurance provided is two times annual earnings with a maximum of $150,000.
Short-Term Disability
- Benefits paid on first day for accident and eighth day for illness
- Plan pays 60% of weekly earnings for a period of 13 weeks
- No pre-existing conditions
Long-Term Disability
- Long-term disability begins after the 90 day Short-term disability period.
AflacŪ Personal Insurance Products
All regular full-time and part-time employees who work at least 30 hours per week are eligible to participate. Aflac offers 5 plans to choose from, and payments are made via payroll deduction on a pre-tax basis. The plans available are:
- Personal Cancer Protection Plan
- Intensive Care Protection- ICU, CCU, or Neonatal, Organ Transplant, Ambulance
- Personal Accident Expense Plan
- Personal Sickness Plan
- Personal Recovery Plus
Employee Assistance Plan
The Girl Scout Council of Greater Minneapolis provides you and your family with the confidential services of an employee assistance service, to help you with any problem, large or small, day or night, whenever you need it! Voluntary Long-Term Care Insurance
Long-Term Care insurance is the kind of help you may need because of increased frailty, an accident, prolonged illness, or disability makes it difficult for you to care for yourself for an extended period of time. It can include receiving skilled nursing care at home, Assisted Living, or perhaps a Residential Care Facility. It can also include attending adult day care during the day and returning to your own home in the evenings. Long-Term Care insurance helps you pay for your care and protect your assets by reimbursing you for covered expenses.
Domestic Partners Benefits

The definition of an eligible Domestic Partner for HealthPartners Medical and Dental insurance is as follows:
- Two individuals of the same sex
- Living under the same roof for at least 12 months
- At least 19 years of age
- Not related by blood closer than permitted by marriage law in the State of Minnesota
- Are financially interdependent and jointly responsible for each others common welfare
Staff Development - Dollars will be available for staff development opportunities for regular full-time and part-time employees who work 30+ hours per week. On an annual basis, and as part of the budgetary process, a certain amount of training dollars will be determined for employees.
Credit Union - Two credit unions to choose from conveniently located in the northern and southern suburbs. Both offer a variety of financial service vehicles to you and your family.
Employee Referral Program - Employees receive a cash award for referring a friend or relative to a designated open position once the referral is hired and completes 90-days of continuous employment. The employee must also be employed at the time of referral and at the time of the pay out of the cash award.
