  Events Help Girls Grow Strong  
COMMUNITY AND COUNCIL EVENT INFORMATION


Girl Scout staff team with volunteers and community organizations to plan special events for Girl Scouts to attend throughout the year. Community and Council Events give girls the chance to interact with others from around the Council and experience activities they may not get to try in troops/groups, service units or on their own.

Community and council events available are updated often. Click below to check out what is currently happening.

Council and Community Events focus on:


Program Events are listed in the red Program Bulletin and Community Events are listed in the 2007-08 Troop/Juliette Program Resources booklet, distributed one per new troop/group and five per Service Unit. Community and Council Events that are added during the year are promoted via Leader News, The Bridge, Leader Meetings, e-mail and this website. Here are some of this year's events.

High School Musical at the State Theatre
Based on the 2006 Emmy Award-winning movie, it tells the story of a popular high school basketball star and a shy, academically gifted newcomer who discover they share a secret passion for singing. It's a fun, high quality family production and a great spring addition to Hennepin Theatre Trust's Broadway Season. Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at 7:30 p.m.

Michaels Girl Scout Program
Michaels in Crystal offers workshops to help Girl Scouts fulfill award requirements. All the supplies needed are included in the fee. Dates and times are by request. These workshops are only offered at the Michaels in Crystal. For more information or to register call Michaels at (763)531-2372.

$5 per scout (set up fee of $25 will be charged to hold date but will come off the total at the end) These workshops last an hour.

Brownie Try it Workshops

$10 per scout and $25 set up fee. These workshops last 2.5 hours.

Junior Badge Workshops

$10 per Girl Scout and $25 set up fee. These workshops lasts 2.5 hours.

Junior Girl Scout Badge Opportunity at Great Lakes Aquarium
Great Lakes Aquarium has designed four badge workshops for Junior Girl Scouts. Girls can choose from Science Discover, Wildlife, Water Wonders or Rocks Rock. Each workshop will be led by professional educators and take approximately two hours. Fee is $8. Call(218)740-3474 ext. 1007 to schedule your troop/group workshop today. Great Lakes Aquarium Flyer (PDF)

Stages Theatre Company
Learn about acting and stage make-up and see a performance, while working towards the theatre badge. Workshops include two one-hour classes on beginning acting and an introduction to stage make-up. For specific dates and times refer to the 2007-08 Troop/Juliette Resources booklet or call Stages Theatre Company at (952)979-1138.

JoAnn Stores Inc Girl Scout Program
Variety of Girl Scout award requirements earned in these specially designed classes just for Girl Scouts. To set up your own date and time or learn more call (952)831-5200.

Science Explorers
Brownie and Junior Girl Scouts receive special rates at the Science Explorers in Golden Valley. Earn requirements towards Try-It's and badges. Call (763)544-5441 to arrange your visit.

The Bakken Museum
If you can't attend one of the Bakken events in the council events section of the Program Bulletin, you may join other youth groups and the general public in participating in other dates/times. For a list of The Bakken Museum community events consult the 2007-2008 Troop/Juliette Program Resources booklet. Registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis; four weeks lead time preferred. Call (612)926-3878, ext. 219 to book. The Bakken is located at 3527 Zenith Ave. S., Minneapolis.

Experience Science at the Bakken Museum
Brownie and Junior Girl Scouts can experience science first-hand with interactive workshops and a tour of the museum. Earn requirements for the Science Discovery badge and a special Bakken participation patch. Wizard Workshops are held on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays and the fee is $5. Check out the online Program Bulletin under "Abracadabra" and "Sparks and Shocks" for complete details.
  • Girl Scouts of all ages can have a different adventure in science every Saturday. Do hands-on activities and see fun, interactive demonstrations in an "open house" format. Family Science Saturdays are held every Saturday and the fee is $3.50 per girl/$7.00 per adult (one free adult admission per every four girls). Activities link to requirements for many Girl Scout awards. The themes change quarterly; upcoming 2007-2008 themes are as follows:

  • Girl Scouts of all ages can explore the exhibits at The Bakken with their troops/groups or families and see how they bring science to life. Girl Scouts receive discounted admission when girls wear their Girl Scout sash/vest or pin.
