Girl Planning Tip Sheet

As you learned in leader training, Girl Planning is the key to Girl Scout program. Girl Planning means that the troop/group adults help girls choose and organize their own activities, solve problems as a group, and the girls take charge of the result.

When girls plan, they learn:
  • self confidence
  • creativity
  • follow through
  • expressing themselves in a group
  • decision making
  • communicating their own ideas
  • responsibility for their decisions
  • giving and taking
  • evaluation
  • listening to each other's needs
As a leader, your attitude is the single most important factor in making Girl planning a growing experience. Of course, you'll need to be understanding, sensitive, patient, and more!! Follow these guidelines:

        LISTEN to their options and be guided by them;
        BELIEVE in the girls' ability to plan and carry out;
        LET the girls make mistakes in order to learn;
        NOW, you are ready to BEGIN!

To learn more about Girl Planning, refer to the program Age Level HELP Guides provided by the Council. Or review pages 22-25 in Safety-Wise
