Girl Planning Tip Sheet
As you learned in leader training, Girl Planning is the key to Girl Scout program. Girl Planning means that the troop/group adults help girls choose and organize their own activities, solve problems as a group, and the girls take charge of the result.
When girls plan, they learn:
- self confidence
- creativity
- follow through
- expressing themselves in a group
- decision making
- communicating their own ideas
- responsibility for their decisions
- giving and taking
- evaluation
- listening to each other's needs
As a leader, your attitude is the single most important factor in making Girl planning a growing experience. Of course, you'll need to be understanding, sensitive, patient, and more!! Follow these guidelines:
LISTEN to their options and be guided by them;
BELIEVE in the girls' ability to plan and carry out;
LET the girls make mistakes in order to learn;
NOW, you are ready to BEGIN!
