Troop Requirements Every troop/group needs at least one leader trained in Orientation, Girl Scout Basics, and Program Age Level while working with the girls. This training must be completed within six months of taking over a new troop. It is highly recommended that all adult volunteers consider taking this helpful training. Council Trainers Training is given by volunteer council trainers who are excited to share their skills, knowledge, and love of Girl Scouting with other volunteers. Please let them know you appreciate the time and energy they have expended in preparing and providing your training session by offering to assist in setting up or taking down at your training session. Available Resources Resources are available for special requests such as sign language interpreters, Spanish, and Braille materials. Call (763)971-4067 or TTY (763)971-4112 to make requests and arrangements. For special needs, please contact training@girlscoutsmpls.org. Be sure to allow adequate time for the council to accommodate your requests. Spanish speakers can contact our council by calling (763)971-4108. General Information Childcare is not provided during training sessions due to insurance and liability reasons. Please do not bring your child to adult training. Also, it is permissible to use troop funds to pay for childcare during your training. Training Sessions Training is scheduled at accessible sites throughout the council area. However, if you have concerns, please call the training department at (763)971-4057, so that we can meet your needs. Training sessions will begin on time so plan to arrive 10 minutes early for check-in and plan to attend the entire session. You will not receive credit for incomplete sessions. Refreshments will not be provided. You may bring your own refreshments. If a session is scheduled through a mealtime, bring your own bag lunch. FAQ What training is required for leaders bridging to a new program age level? Leaders moving to a new program age level complete the appropriate age-level training. I'm a new leader in a co-op troop. What training do I need to attend? Leaders in co-op troops need to attend training according to the same guidelines as all other leaders. Is training from another council transferable? Sometimes it is, if the courses taken are equivalent. Call the training manager to discuss your situation. You will need a record of training taken. Will a record be kept of training I attend? We maintain a computer record of any training you attend that is required for your position. | |||
